Business Grants

There are two types of Business Grant available, which are funded by SEEDA and delivered by Finance South East in the South East Region.

From 1st April 2009, the SEEDA Business Grants programme will be delivered by Finance South East. This will offer customers a simplified service, as Business Grants will now be managed alongside all other SEEDA funded funds within the South East Funding Escalator

  Grant for Research & Development Grant for Business Investment

Who/What is it For?

  • For businesses looking to carry out research or development of a technologically innovative product or process
  • To assist businesses in increasing productivity through investment in capital equipment and technology. For businesses looking to modernise, expand or diversify to maintain or establish sustainable growth and provide skilled jobs

What Size Company can Apply? 

  • Small and Medium-sized businesses (SMEs)
  • Large corporates: eligible only in Thanet and 3 wards in Dover (Tier 2, Assisted Area)
  • Small & Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): eligible throughout the South East region (Tier 3)

How much funding is available?

  • £5,000 to £500,000
  • 40% – 60% of eligible project costs
  • £10,000 to £2m (in exceptional cases larger grants may be available)
  • Up to 35% of eligible project costs dependent on area and case
Grant for Research & Development and Grant for Business Investment are national schemes with strict sets of criteria. The Business Grants Programme is funded by SEEDA and delivered by Finance South East. Grants are awarded at SEEDA’s discretion on an individual basis against the Regional Economic Strategy, the grant criteria, and value for money to the public purse. There is no automatic entitlement.
